Insurance Content Does Not Have to Feel Like a Legal Document
Life insurance is a category where the regulatory requirement to be accurate and the human need to be understood are in constant tension. Every word on an insurance website carries legal weight. Exclusions must be disclosed. Terms must be precise. And somehow all of that has to be presented in a way that doesn't send the reader looking for a broker rather than staying to read and decide.
ICICI Prudential had built a website that met the accuracy and completeness requirements well. It was also, frankly, very hard to read. The language was written for a compliance team rather than for a person trying to decide whether a particular policy was right for their family. Prospective customers with genuine intent were arriving, working through a few paragraphs of dense language and then leaving without the clarity they needed to move forward.
Tracing the Drop off
A full audit of the website covered content clarity, information architecture, search ranking, SEO health and keyword opportunity gaps. The audit traced the journey a prospective customer takes from a search query through to the page they land on and what that page asks them to do next.
The pattern was consistent throughout. Content that should have been ranking for high intent insurance queries was not, because it had been written with regulatory completeness in mind rather than search intent. Pages existed to meet disclosure obligations rather than to genuinely inform the person trying to make a coverage decision for their family.
How we
solved it.
The content rewrite programme applied plain language principles to ICICI Prudential's product pages, policy information and terms while maintaining regulatory accuracy throughout. Accurate does not have to mean inaccessible, and that was the core principle behind every rewrite decision.
Separating the layers of information hierarchically was the approach. Primary content explaining what a product does, who it is for and what it costs was written in clear and accessible language and placed where a reader would encounter it first. Detailed terms, exclusions and regulatory disclosures were retained in their precise form but placed in a hierarchy that a reader could navigate to rather than being forced through before reaching the basic information they came for.
A full technical SEO audit identified the structural issues reducing search visibility, including page speed problems, crawlability issues, internal linking gaps and metadata quality across product and information pages. A keyword research programme mapped the specific queries with meaningful search volume where ICICI Prudential had the authority and content depth to rank but was not currently appearing. Implementation was done carefully to ensure that no SEO optimization altered the meaning or accuracy of any regulated disclosure.
The work,
in view.
The ICICI Prudential Life Insurance
outcome.
Organic traffic grew as the SEO programme took effect. User engagement metrics improved across the board. Time on page increased. Conversion from information page to quote request improved. Regulatory compliance was maintained throughout. The website now does what a life insurance website should do, helping someone understand what they are considering and why it might matter for their family, in language that respects their intelligence, the same standard we held DBS Bank's communications and SUD Life's marketing to, and the same plain language test Angel One's investor content had to pass for a new generation of first time traders.
