SUD Life
Digital Shield for Life
Insurance for a Generation That Grew Up Online
SUD Life is a joint venture bringing together Star Union Dai-ichi, combining the strengths of Bank of India, Union Bank and the Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company. It is a serious institutional pedigree. But serious pedigree does not automatically translate into relevance for the audience that matters most for the next decade of growth: young professionals who are digitally native, sceptical of traditional insurance marketing and largely unreached by the channels that worked for previous generations.
Building genuine digital brand awareness among this audience and converting that awareness into policy enquiries, all while keeping acquisition costs sensible enough for the programme to stay commercially sustainable, was the task at hand.
A Different Kind of Insurance Buyer
Most insurance marketing is built around fear and obligation. Protect your family. Secure your future. These messages work reasonably well with older buyers who already understand why insurance matters. They tend to fall flat with younger professionals who are still building their financial literacy and who respond better to content that educates and empowers rather than content that tries to provoke anxiety.
Positioning the brand as modern, accessible and genuinely helpful rather than as another institution selling fear is the insight the SUD Life strategy leaned into directly.
How we
solved it.
Targeted digital campaigns reach young professionals through the channels and formats they actually engage with. Educational content explained insurance concepts in plain language. Emailers and social content worked together to build a consistent brand presence rather than relying on a single channel to do all the work.
Stock and animation video content was used to communicate concepts efficiently and affordably, supplemented by print materials for the contexts where physical collateral still mattered. Each format played a specific role in the overall awareness and consideration strategy, and the consistency across all of them built brand recognition over time.
SEO and content marketing worked together to capture search intent from people researching insurance options, with content built around the questions a first time insurance buyer in their late twenties or early thirties was actually asking.
The work,
in view.
The SUD Life
outcome.
ROAS on lead generation campaigns reached 2.8x. Brand search volume, the clearest signal of genuine awareness building rather than just impression delivery, grew by 200%. Policy enquiries increased by 95%. Monthly campaign reach exceeded 1.5 million people.
A brand that successfully repositioned itself for a new generation of insurance buyers without losing the institutional credibility its joint venture heritage provides is exactly what these numbers describe. SUD Life is now a genuine consideration option for young professionals making their first insurance decisions, the same long term position Tata AIG's storytelling led video work and ICICI Prudential's plain language policy content have each carved out in their own corners of the category.
